Remember when Jim Carrey hated Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls so much that he vowed to never do another sequel? Ah, good times.
Carrey’s stance on sequels has softened considerably since the ’90s, with the actor now in talks to reprise his role as the Grinch in a sequel to How the Grinch Stole Christmas. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ron Howard is returning to direct. He will also produce alongside his Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer.
Honestly, the only part of this that doesn’t immediately make me think this is a bad idea is the writing team. Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer, and David Mandel are writing the script. They all worked on Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is awesome and makes me feel, pretty, pretty, pretty good that 2 Grinch 2 Steal Christmas will be funny. Of course, they also wrote the live-action Cat in the Hat movie, so… eh.
Plot details remain under wraps. I couldn’t begin to imagine where a sequel could take the Grinch, so best of luck to Universal and Imagine Entertainment.
Do you think a Grinch sequel is a good idea?
