The next installment in Universal and Amblin‘s Jurassic franchise just lost its director.
Gareth Edwards has exited the untitled Jurassic World Rebirth sequel due to creative differences. In a statement (via Deadline), Universal said: “We had an incredible experience working with Gareth on Jurassic World Rebirth.”
Edwards will now focus on his original projects he’s been developing, while Universal will begin the hunt for the next Jurassic director. Whoever is tapped will become the sixth director to helm a movie in the franchise, after Steven Spielberg (twice), Joe Johnston, Colin Trevorrow (twice), J. A. Bayona, and Edwards.
Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali are expected to return for the Rebirth sequel. Universal is hoping to begin production in 2027. David Koepp penned the most recent draft of the script.
