The upcoming Malcolm in the Middle series is recasting a few key family members for the Disney+ revival.
Per Variety, Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are set to reprise their respective roles of Malcolm’s older brothers Francis and Reese for the revival series. However, Erik Per Sullivan is officially not returning as younger brother Dewey, likely due to him having largely stepped away from acting since becoming an adult. Instead, Fargo and The Expanse star Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will step into the role for the four-episode limited series.
The youngest brother, Jamie, has also been recast, with Anthony Timpano succeeding twins Kara Sanford and Jessica Sanford (baby Jamie) and James and Lukas Rodriguez (toddler Jamie) as the character. Meanwhile, Vaughan Murrae has been cast as the family’s only daughter, Kelly, whose existence was hinted at in the original show’s series finale.
As for wholly new characters, Keeley Karsten will play Malcolm’s daughter, Leah, while Kiana Madeira is on board as Tristan, “Malcolm’s charming and opinionated girlfriend who – by any rational standard – is way out of his league.”
What Will the Malcolm in the Middle Revival Be About?
Announced in December 2024, the upcoming revival will find Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) and his daughter drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party. Original series creator Linwood Boomer is behind the four-episode revival, which is set to begin production in the coming weeks in Vancouver.
A premiere window for the Malcolm in the Middle revival has not yet been announced. We’ll keep you posted.
