The Uncharted movie has found its Sully.
Mark Wahlberg is in final talks to star opposite Tom Holland in Sony’s Uncharted movie, based on the hit video game series of the same name. Holland will play treasure hunter Nathan Drake, who travels the world uncovering various historical artifacts. Wahlberg will play Victor “Sully” Sullivan, an American treasure hunter, fortune seeker and businessman who serves as a friend, mentor and father figure to Drake.
This isn’t the first time that Wahlberg has found himself attached to the Uncharted adaptation. He was originally going to star as Drake years ago when David O. Russell was attached to direct. That version of the script rewrote the whole Uncharted franchise, and was going to star a family of Drakes. Fans were happy that the film never got off the ground.
I don’t exactly see Wahlberg as Sully, but it’s nothing that a glue on moustache can’t fix. I was routing for Bryan Cranston or Chris Pratt as Sully. (Cranston if we’re going dream casting and Pratt if we’re going the younger route.)
With its two leads locked, Uncharted should be picking up some steam. We should be hearing about more casting within the next couple months. Filming should start early next year, especially if it wants to make its 2020 release date.
Travis Knight (Bumblebee) is directing from a script by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins.
Uncharted hits theaters December 18, 2020.
What are your thoughts on Wahlberg as Sully? Yay or nay?
