It’s been a good summer for John Leguizamo.
After wowing critics and audiences this summer in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Leguizamo has landed a major role in Joseph Kosinski‘s upcoming Miami Vice ’85. According to Deadline‘s sources, the actor will play the movie’s villain, a cartel boss.
Leguizamo joins a cast that currently includes Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez, with Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan as Crockett and Tubbs.
With a screenplay by Dan Gilroy, Miami Vice ’85 promises to explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami. The movie is said to be inspired by the pilot episode of the original 1980s series. Production is slated to begin before the end of the year.
As for Leguizamo, he’ll reunite with his Odyssey co-star Matt Damon for a key role in the untitled event pic from the Daniels that is currently filming. He also recently shot Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist: Martyrs starring Scarlett Johansson, and will be seen next in Bullet Catch.
Miami Vice ’85 will be filmed for IMAX and is set for release in theaters on May 19, 2028.
