The actors who will play James “Sonny” Crockett and Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs in the Miami Vice reboot have reportedly been found, and they are the most obvious choices in the world.
According to Nexus Point News, Glen Powell and Michael B. Jordan are in talks to star as Crockett and Tubbs, respectively, in the movie, which will be directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick, F1). Powell previously worked with Kosinski on Maverick, which turned him into Hollywood’s next big star, with the actor having gone on to headline Anyone But You, Hit Man, and Twisters. As for Jordan, you’ve seen him in everything from Black Panther and Sinners to Fruitvale Station and the Creed trilogy.
Nightcrawler filmmaker Dan Gilroy and Top Gun: Maverick scribe Eric Warren Singer penned the screenplay for the reboot, which will reportedly be “inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.”
The original Miami Vice was a TV show starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover detectives in South Florida. It aired on NBC for five seasons from 1984-1989. Kosinski’s reboot will be the second film version, following Michael Mann’s 2006 box office flop, which starred Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.
Universal is scheduled to release Miami Vice in theaters on August 6, 2027.
