Diane Lane in Feud on FX

Mike Flanagan‘s The Exorcist reboot just added another major actor to its cast.

According to Deadline, Diane Lane has closed a deal to star alongside Scarlett Johansson and Jacobi Jupe in the next installment of the iconic horror franchise.

Lane most recently led Jan Komasa’s acclaimed (and underseen) thriller Anniversary, alongside Phoebe Dynevor, Kyle Chandler, and Dylan O’Brien. Before that, she starred in Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, for which she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series.

There is no word yet on who Lane will play. Plot details are also being kept under wraps, although Flanagan’s Exorcist movie will be an all-new story set in the horror universe.

Prior to Flanagan’s involvement, Universal and Blumhouse had intended for 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer to be followed by two sequels, the first of which was to be titled The Exorcist: Deceiver. However, after Believe bombed, those plans were scrapped in favor of a creative reset.

Flanagan will direct from his own script. Production is set to take place in New York City.

The untitled Exorcist movie is scheduled to hit theaters on March 12, 2027.

Do you think Flanagan can bring The Exorcist franchise back to life after Believer killed it?
