Vanity Fair recently profiled director Rolan Emmerich and his upcoming disaster movie, Moonfall. The article also came with a bunch of new images from the movie.
Let’s check out the images and see if they give you Independence Day or 2012 vibes:
As revealed in the article, the whole concept for Moonfall came from the “Hollow Moon” theory, which apparently is a popular conspiracy theory(?!). Emmerich explains that he is a huge fan of conspiracy theories:
“As you know, I did the movie “Independence Day,” where we were strongly inspired by the whole Area 51 conspiracy. When you have a conspiracy which a lot of people believe, you already have some built-in interest. You don’t have to believe them yourself … Most of the time I’m a skeptical person — I’m German after all.”
I’ve never heard of the Hollow Moon theory and I’m not googling it to see what it’s about. I’ll just take a stab and say there are people who think the Moon is hollow inside. Cool, I guess.
I’m doubtful this conspiracy theory will make for a good movie, but what do you think? Check out the first teaser trailer here and let me know what you think.
If you’d rather read than watch, here’s the synopsis for the movie:
Moonfall hits theaters on February 4, 2022.
What do you think of the Moonfall images? Does this look like it could be as good as Independence Day? Tell us your thoughts down in the comments.
