Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.
Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.
According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav (pictured above) wants the studio to focus on its big IP instead of the “filmmaker-driven fare” that studio heads Michael de Luca and Pam Abdy have been greenlighting, such as Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, the latter two of which haven’t been released yet.
Warner Bros. is linked to some of the most recognizable IP in the world, such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, DC Comics, Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera (incl. Scooby-Doo), Tom and Jerry, the MonsterVerse, Mad Max, Mortal Kombat, and The Matrix.
So, the question I ask today is: do you agree with Zaslav that Warner Bros. needs to focus more on its big-name IP or do you like that the studio is handing out blank checks to acclaimed filmmakers?
I’ll see you in the trenches.
