Some movies are driving to a new release date.
First up, Ghostbuster: Afterlife is now expected to hit theaters on June 11, 2021. That means the third film in the original franchise will open almost exactly 37 years after the 1984 classic. Sony also announced that the sequel to Don’t Breathe will open August 13, 2021.
Universal and MGM have given the upcoming Candyman reboot a new date as well. It will hit theaters on August 27, 2021. It looks like August 2021 will be the official start to the spooky season.
MGM also teased that Legally Blonde 3 will open sometime in May 2022. The studio also pushed back their Aretha Franklin biopic Respect to August 13, 2021, and have completely removed Tomb Raider 2 from the calendar.
Director Dexter Fletcher revealed on the Celebrity Catch Up podcast that Sherlock Holmes 3 is on hold and will probably not make its supposed 2021 release date. Fletcher said that the sequel is “sitting on the back burner at the moment until it becomes clear where the world is at.”
Lastly, Paramount Pictures is delaying their animated monster wrestling movie Rumble to May 14, 2021.
There’s still a lot of good films hitting theaters next year. Let’s hope we’ll actually be able to see them.
