News of Redford’s death was shared by his representative with the following statement (via ABC News):

“Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved. He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy.”

Redford’s career spanned more than six decades. He is perhaps best known for his work in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), Jeremiah Johnson (1972), The Candidate (1972), and The Sting (1973), the last of which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He eventually won an Oscar for directing 1980’s Ordinary People, as well as an Honorary Award in 2003.

His other major film credits included Three Days of the Condor (1975), All the President’s Men (1976), The Natural (1984), and Out of Africa (1985). One of his final roles was that of Alexander Pierce in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), the latter of which served as the actor’s final on-screen appearance.
