‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Season 7 Gets a Release Date

Way back on July 19, 2018, Lucasfilm announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Dave Filoni‘s epic The Clone Wars series would return with 12 new episodes on Disney+. And now we have an official date. In just over a month the seventh and final season will hit the streaming service.

While the new season of Clone Wars will be shorter than most of the past seasons. It will be nice to have a definitive end to the series. After Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the show was cancelled in 2014. Instead they focused on the new series Rebels, which aired on Disney XD. Most of its seasons were 20-22 episodes. The exception being Season 6 “The Lost Missions”. Which consisted of only 13 episodes and was released on Netflix.

For those of you that don’t know or don’t care (Sailor), the series was designed to bridge the gap between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  And it did a great job of doing that by developing the wooden characters of the prequels into ones you cared about. The series had some real emotion and story-lines. you were invested in that was severely missing from the movies. Originally the end of the series was supposed to lead directly into the opening sequence of Episode 3. So hopefully they pull that off in this run.

It’s also nice to see Ahsoka Tano back in this season. She was a standout character from the series, who was Anakin’s padawan, who ultimately has a falling out with the Jedi Counsel. here in the trailer it looks like she is taking on her “Fulcrum” codename and hopefully it leads more into her return from Rebels. She also had a nice little voice cameo in The Rise of Skywalker that was great to hear.

While there have been some rumors about the future of Ahsoka circulating the internet, who knows what will happen with her character. Maybe she’ll gets her own series or maybe a live-action interpretation of her somewhere down the line (The Mandalorian). What’s clear is that Disney still very much loves Clone Wars’ Dave Filoni. He’s been a key part of The Mandalorian, and the show is now using some of his Clone Wars/Rebels plot points. They let him bring back/finish Clone Wars as a series. Lastly, he got several voice cameos from some Clone Wars/Rebels characters in The Rise of Skywalker. Hopefully Filoni is the key to Star Wars to come.

And if you haven’t seen the show yet, I recommend watching it chronologically.

The Clone Wars hits Disney+ February 17, 2020.
