
English actor Terence Stamp has died at the age of 87.
News of Stamp’s death was shared by his family with the following statement (via Reuters):
“He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come. We ask for privacy at this sad time.”
Stamp made his onscreen debut in the titular role of Peter Ustinov’s 1962 historical drama Billy Budd, earning him a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year – Actor and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. In 1978, he made a cameo as the villainous General Zod in Superman (1978) before returning as the primary antagonist in Superman II (1980). His other prominent credits include Wall Street (1987), Young Guns (1988), The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), The Limey (1999), Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), The Haunted Mansion (2003), Elektra (2005), Wanted (2008), Get Smart (2008), Yes Man (2008), Valkyrie (2008), Big Eyes (2014), and Last Night in Soho (2021).
