Teyonah Parris will star opposite Denzel Washington in Christopher McQuarrie‘s untitled thriller for Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists.
Deadline was the first to report Parris’ casting in the project. She will be playing Washington’s character’s estranged daughter. Parris is best known for playing the adult Monica Rambeau in WandaVision and The Marvels, and for her role in They Cloned Tyrone.
The untitled thriller centers on a former police detective (Washington) serving a life sentence who is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Granted compassionate release with six months to live, he returns home to the estranged daughter (Parris) he left behind and a grandson he never knew existed. He only wants to make amends and forget his dark past, but his dark past has not forgotten him.
The untitled thriller will be McQuarrie’s first movie not to star Cruise since his directorial debut, 2000’s The Way of the Gun. The McQuarrie-Cruise partnership is arguably one of the best director-actor combos that Hollywood has seen emerge in the last 20 years, with the pair working together on five Mission: Impossible movies, Edge of Tomorrow, Valkyrie, The Mummy, Top Gun: Maverick, and the Jack Reacher films.
The untitled thriller is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
