‘The Gentlemen’ Trailer is a Guy Ritchie Throwback

The official trailer for The Gentlemen looks like a return to form for Guy Ritchie, especially after cashing a couple paycheques for Aladdin and King Arthur.

That is one star-studded cast! Everyone looks like they are having an absolute blast here. Ritchie became a household name with his crime comedies (particularly Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels), and this definitely looks like the old Ritchie after he took some time off to insert his unique style into some Hollywood blockbusters.

Ritchie’s films are usually hit or miss for me. I like his Sherlock Holmes films and I appreciate the live-action Aladdin for not being a straightforward remake, but Lock, Stock was sort of boring, if still not an excellently crafted film. The Gentlemen might sell me on cast alone, because I’m not sold entirely on the plot yet.

Plot Synopsis:

From writer/director Guy Ritchie comes THE GENTLEMEN, a star-studded sophisticated action comedy. THE GENTLEMEN follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him (featuring an all-star ensemble cast including Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant).

The Gentlemen hits theaters January 24, 2020.
