Back in 2008, there were rumblings that a fifth installment to the popular Lethal Weapon series could be headed our way. Shane Black, writer of the first and the hands down best of the series, had apparently written one last Lethal Weapon script. His script work was sorely missing from the latter films even though they were all entertaining in their own right. Instead we got the short lived Fox TV show for some reason.
Now here we are in 2020 and those rumors are back again. And while the script that Black wrote may not be the final one, Richard Donner (director of the whole series), Danny Glover and Mel Gibson are supposedly on board for one more. But honestly it would be nice to close out the series with Black penning the script one last time.
Dan Lin, long time Lethal Weapon producer had this to say:
“We’re trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie. And Dick Donner’s coming back. The original cast is coming back. And it’s just amazing. The story itself is very personal to him. Mel and Danny are ready to go, so it’s about the script.”
Anyway all this is till pretty much Tinseltown talk and I’ll hold any real judgement until it is 100% official. Aside from 48 Hours this is one one of the best buddy cop movies out there. And all this talk makes me want to watch the first one again.
What do you guys think? Interested in seeing one last Lethal Weapon at all?
