Vin Diesel is basically the Kathleen Kennedy of actors, announcing projects that are most likely never getting made.
In a new Instagram post, the actor gave a lengthy update on several movies, including some that I don’t think anybody knew were even in the works. So, let’s run down every movie Diesel mentioned in this post and see what the odds are of them making it to the big screen.
The Last Witch Hunter 2
Diesel begins his post by claiming that he was “back to work early” the day after the 97th Academy Awards, “helping my friends at Lionsgate answer the demand for the future of Kaulder, who first appeared in The Last Witch Hunter.”
Released in 2015, The Last Witch Hunter was a fantasy action film starring Diesel as immortal witch hunter Kaulder, who must stop a plague from ravaging the entire world. The movie only made $147 million at the box office (against a $90 million production budget), but I guess that was good enough for Lionsgate. Of course, the studio has never actually announced a sequel, it’s always been Diesel stating that a follow-up was in the works. I’m also not sure where this “demand” for more Kauldner is coming from, but cool!
xXx 4
Diesel then briefly mentions “answering the question on when we can schedule in Xander from xXx.”
Unlike The Last Witch Hunter, the last xXx movie was actually a surprise box office hit ($346M against $85M budget), releasing during the height of the Fast & Furious craze. While there has been the occasional update since 2017’s xXx: The Return of Xander Cage about a fourth movie, in 2024, Deadline reported that xXx 4 had stalled out due to The H Collective’s financial problems and litigation with the xXx franchise film rights. So, again, not sure about an xXx 4, but Diesel is seemingly confident that a sequel will happen one day.
Marvel Studios’ Groot
Since 2014, Diesel has voiced Groot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder as the tree-like alien who only says, “I am Groot.”
According to Diesel, “Disney wants their Planet X! Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet.” I doubt very much that Marvel Studios would greenlight a Groot solo film, but I guess stranger things have happened.
Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots
In 2021, Universal, Mattel Films, and Diesel’s One Race Films announced plans for a live-action film adaptation of the retro toy Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, with Diesel attached to star. In his Instagram post, Diesel promised that “Mattel, one of my favorite companies, is getting close to launching the testosterone-male answer to Barbie with Rock ‘em Sock ‘em!”
Riddick and a Mystery Project (Possibly a Kojack Movie?)
“Obviously, there is Riddick which must always endure for the die-hard fans,” wrote Diesel. It’s unclear exactly what the actor is talking about here. Is it Riddick 5? Or Riddick: Furya, which reportedly began shooting in August 2024? Either way, more Riddick is on the way!
Diesel also teased that he would be “directing the film about that infamous New York detective, which is pulling me to New York.” I honestly have no clue what this is, but Google is telling me that Diesel has wanted to make a film adaptation of Kojack for a while and direct it, so I’m assuming that’s what he’s referring to here. Yay?
Fast & Furious 11 (a.k.a. Fast X2)
Diesel then suggests that he will be “juggling this crazy schedule for the year” as if all of these projects will be going into production in 2025. C’mon, man! Anyway, he wraps up his movie updates with a brief mention that he is continuing “the fight to bring Fast X2, the finale, back to LA this summer.” Fast X2 is supposed to resolve all the dangling storylines from Fast X (2023). No clue when production will start.
Well, that’s the end of Diesel’s crazy Instagram post. Now, let’s play a game: how many of the movies mentioned above will actually get made? Share your guess below!
