Over the weekend at the New York Comicon CBS released two trailers for the first season of Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery. The Picard series will pick up twenty years after Star Trek: Nemesis and it looks like Discovery is jumping 930 years into the future.
It’s pretty cool to see how much they are carrying over from The Next Generation as well as Voyager. We get to see Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis back as William Riker and Deanna Troi along with Jeri Ryan back as the Borg, Seven of Nine. Also the vineyard seen in the trailer is the same place where Jean-Luc grew up, originally seen in the The Next Generation episode ‘Family’.
Star Trek: Discovery has mainly served as a prequel to prior Star Trek shows, but that seems to be changing big time in season 3 with a 930 year time jump. While the second season dealt with the Discovery crew – led by Captain Christopher Pike – attempting to stop Control from wiping out all life in the galaxy. But with Commander Michael Burnham’s time traveling to to defeat Control, the show is going to have to introduce a bunch of new characters.
Star Trek: Picard premiers on CBS All Access on January 23, 2020 while Star Trek: Discovery may not air until after Picard‘s first season ends.
