MOVIES WATCHED THIS WEEK
Point Break (1991)
“An F.B.I. Agent goes undercover to catch a gang of surfers who may be bank robbers.”
Check out Double Impact’s thoughts here.
Animal Factory (2000)
“A young man goes to prison and a tough, older convict takes him under his wing as a mentor.”
A pretty unflinching look at prison life with a hell of a performance by Willem Dafoe (per usual) but wish he had someone other than Edward Furlong to play off of. He just isn’t on Dafoe’s level. Not many are but there had to be somebody better out there. I was very surprised by Tom Arnold’s quick but sick role. He actually did some acting. Kudos. (4/5)
Chernobyl (HBO Mini-Series)
All I have to say is damn. This was haunting and sickening. This is a bleak and horrific look at one of the most tragic events in history. The acting is phenomenal and from what I have read, the accuracy is pretty on point. The true shock and gut punch comes in the final moments of the last episode during the trial and with the jaw-dropping montage of facts about the aftermath of the whole ordeal. This is a tough watch but one I highly recommend especially for lovers of history or if you just need another to dislike mankind.
Cobra Kai (Seasons 1-2)
I was blown away by how much I loved this series and how well it was done. The look at The Karate Kid from Johnny’s perspective and how he is stuck in the 80s is just fantastic. The nostalgia is real and it made me love the original even more. The way it feels like an extension of the original trilogy but also its own thing just makes it fun as hell. I’m glad Zabka got this and the less than 30-minute episodes with a kick-ass soundtrack help make this an easy watch. Watch it!
