Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.
Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.
The nominations for the 94th Academy Awards will be announced tomorrow. No doubt there will be plenty of surprises and snubs, but I thought it was also a great time to see what actors people think will snag a nomination while they are still young and wide-eyed.
The question I ask today is: what actor under 30 will win an Oscar next?
I’ll be honest with you, I definitely was about to write how I thought Andrew Garfield or Benedict Cumberbatch, both previous Oscar nominees, stood a real shot at winning an Oscar this year. Then I looked them up and realized they are far past 30 years of age. (I guess I’m not as young as I think I am either.)
So, I had to rethink who I would pick. I think Tom Holland and Zendaya would both easily have a shot at an Oscar if they chose to take on more projects that stretched their acting muscles. However, I’m going to pick Timothée Chalamet, who already has one Oscar nomination under his belt. He’s got about two or three years to deliver another Oscar worthy performance before turning 30. Can he do it? I think he just might.
So what about you, folks? What actor do you think stands the best shot of winning an Oscar before turning 30?
I’ll see you in the trenches.
