What is Robert De Niro’s Best Performance?

Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.

Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.

A few weeks ago, I asked the screenagers to comment what they believed to be Harrison Ford’s best performance. Now I’m back with another Hollywood legend who has been acting steadily since the seventies.

With seven Academy Award acting nominees (and two wins) under his belt, the question I ask today is: what is Robert De Niro’s best performance?

My pick has to be Taxi Driver, a phenomenal performance from De Niro. Travis Bickle is someone who lives forever in the pop culture conscious thanks to his iconic and quotable line “You talkin’ to me?”

Now if this was strictly comedic performances I honestly think De Niro has not given a better performance than Jack Byrnes in Meet the Parents. His later films like Dirty Grandpa may be funny (to an extent), but his on screen chemistry with Ben Stiller in Meet the Parents is unmatched. Who else could say “I have nipples, Greg, could you milk me?” with deadpan delivery and a straight face. It’s another great performance from De Niro.

So what about you, folks? Which Robert De Niro performance do you think is his best?

I’ll see you in the trenches.
