Top Gun: Maverick made so much money, so much more than anyone expected it to make, that Hollywood has been trying its damnedest ever since to figure out how to tap into that stream of success. Well, Netflix apparently looked towards the Shakespearean saying, “What’s in a name?” because they’ve just gone ahead and given the upcoming fourth Beverly Hills Cop film possibly the stupidest title I’ve ever heard.
That’s right, Beverly Hills Cop 4 will now be known as Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. I want to know whose dumb idea it was to retitle the film with the main character’s full name. It’s idiotic!
Okay, enough of my ranting. Let’s dive into what new information has been released about the long-awaited sequel. Deadline has reported that Taylour Paige (Zola) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have boarded Axel Foley alongside Eddie Murphy, who will return as the titular cop.
Mark Molloy will direct Axel Foley from a screenplay by Will Beall. Murphy will produce the film with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Production is apparently underway on the sequel though Netflix has not announced when we can expect the film to drop onto its streaming service. We’ll keep you posted.
Do you like the new title for Beverly Hills Cop 4 or do you have taste?
