Has Warner Bros. and DC Films finally got its shit together regarding the DC Extended Universe?
Just a few weeks after news released that J.K. Simmons was in talks to return as Commissioner Gordon in Batgirl, word has come out that a Black Canary film is in development for HBO Max.
Jurnee Smollett will reprise her role as Dinah Laurel Lance / Black Canary. Misha Green is on board to write the script. Green and Smollett previously worked together on Lovecraft Country.
Cinelinx initially reported the news, and Collider confirmed it. A Black Canary film isn’t all that surprising given a TV series focusing on the DCEU version of the character had been rumored a few months ago.
While I was lukewarm on Birds of Prey, I thought the casting was top notch. I will gladly welcome Smollett back with open arms. Fingers crossed that the Black Canary film will reference or even include Green Arrow. Oh, and bring back Huntress while you’re at it, guys!
