Deadline has confirmed that Bradley Cooper (Avengers: Endgame) is in negotiations with Fox Searchlight, to take over the lead of their planned Nightmare Alley remake.

Set to be helmed by Guillermo Del Toro, the original Nightmare Alley is at 1947 Tyrone Power-led tale of stage mysticism and intrigue in which a mentalist named Stanton Carlisle discovers that lies and deceit can furnish a fitting downfall.

With a carnival backdrop and betrayals of the heart being a central theme to the film, it will be interesting to see Del Toro’s grotesque palette bought into play here, somewhat removed from his whimsical and fantastical Academy Award-winning offering, The Shape of Water.

The new script is penned by Del Toro in collaboration with Kim Morgan (The Forbidden Room).

Previously circling the lead role was Leonardo DiCaprio, however negotiations reportedly fell through; production on Nightmare Alley is still expected to begin this Fall with no other cast having been announced as yet.
