It’s a good time to be Brendan Fraser.
The actor has just landed another high profile role in what has continued to be a momentous year for the Fraser-ssance (a.k.a. the Brendan Fraser renaissance).
Fraser has been cast as the villain in DC‘s Batgirl movie for streamer HBO Max. Deadline’s sources claim he will be playing Garfield Lynns / Firefly. In the comics, Lynns, a pyrotechnics expert, was scarred by a fire at a chemical factory and became a supervillain.
Batgirl is an impressive addition to Fraser’s 2020s filmography. Earlier this year, the actor appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move. He has a potential Oscar-worthy performance coming up in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale next year. Finally, he is currently shooting Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Fraser hasn’t been this hot since the nineties.
Fraser is the latest actor to be cast in Batgirl. Jacob Scipio boarded the project a few days ago, and we now have confirmation J. K. Simmons will be back as Commissioner Gordon from Justice League. Leslie Grace will play Barbara Gordon / Batgirl.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) are directing from a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey). The movie hits HBO Max next year.
Are you excited to see Fraser play a superhero villain? Did Batgirl just jump to the top of your most anticpated superhero films list? I know it sure did on mine.
