Disney+ officially enters the streaming wars on November 12, 2019. For a complete rundown on everything you need to know about the new subscription service, keep on reading below.
The Verge reported that Disney+ will be available on the following devices:
- Apple TV (tvOS)
- Android mobile devices
- Android TV
- Chromecast
- Desktop web browsers
- iPad (iPadOS)
- iPhone (iOS)
- PlayStation 4
- Roku streaming players
- Roku TV
- Xbox One
Amazon/Amazon Fire tablets have been excluded, for an undisclosed reason. Maybe a deal is still being worked out, or maybe Amazon don’t want Amazon users to subscribe to another streaming service.
So if you have an Amazon Fire tablet, and live outside the United States, ignore this next part. Deadline revealed when Disney+ will reach Canada, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand:
- Canada (November 12) – C$8.99 per month, or C$89.99 per year
- Holland (November 12) – €6.99 per month of €69.99 per year
- Australia (November 19) – A$8.99 per month or A$89.99 per year
- New Zealand (November 19) – NZ$9.99 per month or NZ$99.99 per year
Sorry, Aussies, looks like you’re going to have to stay off the internet for a week to avoid The Mandalorian spoilers (which recently dropped its first trailer). Additionally, the Walt Disney Company hopes to have Disney+ rolled out to all remaining countries by the end of 2020.
It was also announced at D23 that episodes of Disney+ series will be rolled out on a weekly basis, skipping the more popular binge model implemented by Netflix.
Honestly, $90 a year for Disney+ (for this Canuck) sounds like a pretty sweat deal considering there is going to be about 300 movies available at launch and around 4000 episodes of TV (if those numbers I read are indeed correct). I probably won’t sign up until the upcoming MCU series begin to drop, because those will be the first Disney+ series that I’m actually interested in seeing (You know I’m there for my man Hawkeye).
Will you be signing up for Disney+? What content are you most excited about?
