Disney has another live-action remake in the works. This time, the studio has set its eyes on its 1953 classic Peter Pan. The upcoming remake will be titled Peter Pan and Wendy (how daring), and, by the character breakdowns, it sounds like it will differ a bit from the animated film.
The Illuminerdi is reporting that Disney has approached Margot Robbie and Joaquin Phoenix for roles in the film. Robbie would be playing Tinker Bell (a perfect fit) while Phoenix would be Captain Hook (I can see it). Neither actor has accepted yet, but I could see Robbie doing it and Phoenix not.
The Illuminerdi also revealed the casting breakdowns for Tinkerbell, Hook and Hook’s trusted sidekick Smee, which can be read below:
- Tinker Bell: Peter’s partner-in-crime and voice of reason with the voice of a million tiny bells, Tink helps the Darlings avoid danger during their Neverland adventure. When Peter, the Darlings, and/or the Lost Boys are in trouble, she uses her magical powers to save the day.
- Captain Hook: An unhinged, dramatic, and menacing swordsman, who is out to seek revenge on Peter Pan for cutting his hand off and feeding it to a crocodile. When Hook takes Wendy’s brothers John and Michael hostage he uses them as bait to lure Peter Pan.
- Smee: A rotund fellow with a great grey beard, Smee is Captain Hook’s main henchman and servant who will do anything to please his captain.
Honestly, at this stage in Disney’s remake frenzy, I’m in for whatever they decide to do. I liked Aladdin. I liked The Jungle Book. I accepted Beauty and the Beast. Mulan looks really good. As long as Disney shakes up the storyline a bit, I’ll gladly see these remade for a new generation.
Which upcoming Disney remake are you looking forward to? As a reminder, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, Cruella, Bambi, and now Peter Pan and Wendy are all in various stages of development.
