Disney’s Live Action ‘Cruella’ in Early Talks with Emma Thompson

Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks, Bridget Jones’ Baby) has been approached to star opposite Emma Stone in the upcoming live action 101 Dalmatians spin-off film Cruella.

The news comes from Variety who report that I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie is helming the project with Marc Platt, Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn producing.

While there is no current information regarding the setting of the film or the character selected for Thompson, it is known that Emma Stone will be taking the titular role which suggests something of an origin story.

Australian-born Gillespie, who has been working on a remake of the Norwegian thriller Thelma only recently took over directing duties from Alex Timbers while Thompson has a full docket including a voice role in The Voyage of Dr DoLittle, and a reprisal of her ‘Agent O’ role in the upcoming Men in Black: International.

Disney has announced that Cruella will see a December 23rd 2020 release date
