First Look at ‘Oppenheimer’ as Jack Quaid, Kenneth Branagh & More Join Cast

Universal has released our first official look at Cillian Murphy in character as J. Robert Oppenheimer. The first look was released to celebrate the commencement of production on Christopher Nolan‘s latest film, Oppenheimer.

Additionally, a handful of actors have been added to the cast as shooting gets underway. Jack Quaid, Kenneth Branagh, David Krumholtz, and Alden Ehrenreich are the latest actors to board the project. Nolan worked with Branagh before on Dunkirk.

Oppenheimer is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Murphy stars as “the theoretical physicist of the same name, whose work on the Manhattan Project led to the invention of the atomic bomb. The epic thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.”

The film is being shot using a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography. As well, parts of the film will be shot in IMAX black and white analogue photography for the first time ever.

Nolan is a director who rarely misses the mark and he has assembled quite a list of who’s who, many he was never worked with before. Joining the above mentioned actors, Oppenheimer also stars Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Matthew Modine, Dylan Arnold, and Michael Angarano.

Oppenheimer hits theaters on July 21, 2023.
