First Look Trailers for ‘Batwoman’ and ‘Nancy Drew’

There was a lot of Batman-centric news released today. In addition to Warner Bros. potentially finding its new Batman in Robert Pattinson, The CW held its upfronts for next season and teased its new shows, including Batwoman (and Nancy Drew).

Batwoman

Ruby Rose stars as Kate Kane/Batwoman, who takes over as Gotham’s protector when her cousin, Bruce Wayne/Batman, disappears. Dougray Scott, Meagan Tandy, Elizabeth Anweis, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, and Rachel Skarsten also star. Batwoman is set to air Sundays at 8 p.m. on The CW.

Nancy Drew

Kennedy McMann headlines as the titular sleuth with Leah Lewis, Maddison Jaizani, Tunji Kasim, Alex Saxon, Scott Wolf, and Alvina August rounding out the main cast. Nancy Drew is set to air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.

I’ve been sold on Nancy Drew ever since it was first announced, although I am disappointed to hear that Freddie Prinze Jr. is no longer part of the cast (Scott Wolf replaced him as Nancy’s father). That being said, I’m always up for a good murder-mystery.

Batwoman on the other hand is a mixed bag. I’m totally down for her being included in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, which was confirmed to air across 5 nights and 2 quarters (meaning we should be expecting a cliffhanger at the end of the third hour in December to be resolved in the fourth hour come January). However, the first look trailer didn’t do much for me. “I’m not going to let a man take credit for the work of a woman” was quite the groaner. I’m interested to check out a Gotham City that has endured years of Batman (in ways the Affleck version or Gotham never accomplished), and the Batwoman costume/look is so damn good that I’m really hoping the finished product is leagues ahead of this trailer.

What did you think of the first look trailers? Do you think Nancy Drew could solve the mystery of Batman’s disappearance?
