Live-Action ‘Scooby-Doo’ Series in the Works at Netflix

Scooby-Doo is heading to Netflix.

According to Deadline, after a competitive bidding war, Netflix has landed Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series, which hails from Greg Berlanti‘s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with a script-to-series commitment.

Josh Appelbaum & Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bebop) are writing the upcoming series, which is based on characters created by Hanna-Barbera. The Live-Action Series will reportedly be an update of the classic cartoon, although Deadline describes it as a “drama project,” which the original series definitely wasn’t.

I don’t know how I feel about this. I love Scooby-Doo, but Netflix is pretty hit (Cobra Kai) and miss (Avatar: The Last Airbender) when it comes to rebooting beloved properties. Also, with Berlanti attached, you just know the melodrama will be dialed to an 11.

If you want a taste of what I’m expecting Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series to look like, check out the fan-made Mystery Incorporated pilot, “Welcome to Coolsville,” on YouTube. It’s as CW as it gets.
