George Clooney to Direct and Star in Adaptation of ‘Good Morning, Midnight’

Variety has reported that George Clooney will bring to life the post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel, Good Morning, Midnight, for Netflix.

The best-selling debut novel of Lily Brooks-Dalton, Good Morning, Midnight revolves around aging astronomer Augustine, who is living in a remote outpost when a catastrophic event occurs. Augustine stays behind as his fellow astronomers evacuate and he soon discovers a mysterious child named Iris. When the airwaves go silent, Augustine and Iris realize they are now completely alone.

At the same time, Mission Specialist Sullivan is in space on a return flight from Jupiter. Sullivan has sacrificed a lot to take this first journey so deep into space, but when the crew loses contact with Earth, they are forced to realize they may never be able to return home.

The two stories begin to gradually intertwine.

The official synopsis reads:

A haunting debut novel about the search for meaning at the edges of human civilization. Good Morning, Midnight is the unforgettable story of two outsiders grappling with love, sacrifice, and regret at the end of the world.

Mark L. Smith (Overlord, The Revenant) will pen the script, and Clooney will not only direct and star in the film as Augustine, but he will produce it as well with Grant Heslov of Smokehouse Pictures.

In a statement to Variety, Clooney said:

“Grant and I couldn’t be more excited to be involved with this incredible project. Mark is a writer we’ve long admired and his script is haunting. We’re thrilled to be working with our friends at Netflix as well.”

There is currently no release date.

I am all about post-apocalyptic novels and movies/television series, so I’m looking forward to this one. What do you think, Wasteoids?
