Jason Reitman is no longer slated to direct the next live-action Ghostbusters film.
According to Deadline, Gil Kenan (Monster House) has instead been handed the directorial reins. Reitman is still attached to the project but only as a writer/producer.
“It’s an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga,” said Kenan in a statement. “I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a Ghostbusters film.”
While plot details remain scarce, sources state the plan for Ghostbusters 4 (as I am referring to it as) is to “return to New York City and the iconic firehouse made famous in the original Ghostbusters films.” The entire Afterlife ensemble cast is expected to return for the upcoming sequel.
Ghostbusters 4 is currently scheduled to open in theaters on December 20, 2023.
Are you down for another Ghostbusters installment? Do you think the original cast will have a larger role in the sequel?
