Jason Clarke‘s next movie could be Michael Mann‘s Heat 2.
According to Deadline, Clarke is being eyed to join the cast of Heat 2. It’s unclear what role Clarke is being considered for. He becomes the third actor believed to be circling the project, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale also in talks. No cast deals are in place yet for any of them.
If Clarke does sign on for Heat 2, it would reunite him with Mann for the first time since Public Enemies. The actor’s other notable credits include Oppenheimer, Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Everest. He is currently shooting A Quiet Place Part III for Paramount.
Heat 2 will adapt Mann’s 2022 novel of the same name, which he co-wrote with Meg Gardiner. The book jumps between two time periods. The first follows Shiherlis, as he tries to evade the LAPD, and Hanna, following the bank robbery gone bad, which moves forward into new territory in the tri-border zone and Southeast Asia.
The second storyline takes readers back to Chicago in 1988, when McCauley, Shiherlis, and their high-line crew are taking scores on the West Coast, the U.S.-Mexico border, and in the Windy City. At the same time, Hanna is cutting his teeth as a rising star in the Chicago Police Department chasing an ultraviolent gang of home invaders. The fallout from McCauley’s scores and Hanna’s pursuit cause unexpected repercussions in a parallel narrative.
After Warner Bros. refused to meet Michael Mann‘s budget demands, the studio let the acclaimed filmmaker shop his sequel project around Hollywood, with Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists acquiring the feature.
Besides Mann, producers for Heat 2 include Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Jerry Bruckheimer, and UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt. Eric Roth and Shane Salerno will executive produce. A theatrical release is planned for the sequel.
