‘Home Alone’ and More Fox Properties Getting Rebooted for Disney+

Disney bought 20th Century Fox for a reason, and that reason is becoming clearer.

During an earnings call with investors on Tuesday, Disney chief Robert Iger announced that reboots/re-imaginings of popular Fox franchises such as Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Cheaper by the Dozen are in development for Disney+. Additionally, Fox Searchlight will be making movies for the streaming service.

Apparently, the Home Alone reboot would completely change the story to follow a husband and wife who go to war with a young boy who has stolen something from them. Dan Mazer is the top choice to direct, and Melissa McCarthy is being eyed to star. God I hope none of this is true. But might I recommend 21st Century Macaulay Culkin Jacob Tremblay as Kevin.

Honestly, out of all these properties, I see Cheaper by the Dozen having the most potential. Make it a TV series that follows the Baker family and the various hijinks the kids get into. You honestly can’t go wrong! But Disney needs to bring back Steve Martin to play the grandpa or something. It doesn’t have to be tied to the original films, but we need more Martin.

This information follows the news today that Disney will be bundling Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu for only $12.99 per month. Is that enough to entice you to subscribe?
