James Spader is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Per Deadline, the actor will reprise his role of Ultron in the untitled Vision series (once known as Vision Quest) that is currently in development at Marvel Studios. Spader previously voiced Ultron in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, according to Deadline, Spader’s role in Vision “may not be voiceover,” suggesting that he could also physically portray the villain through motion capture.
Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard) serves as showrunner on the untitled series which is looking to start production in England in early 2025. While plot details remain largely under wraps, we know that the series will focus on White Vision’s search for a new purpose in life.
Paul Bettany, who has played Vision since Age of Ultron, is the only other confirmed cast member at this time. He made his debut as White Vision, a rebuilt version of Vision without the Mind Stone that is ghostly white, in the final episodes of the 2021 Disney+ limited series, WandaVision.
The Vision series is being viewed as the third part of a trilogy that started with WandaVision and will continue with Agatha All Along this September.
No release window for Vision has been revealed yet, although a late 2026 release seems likely. We’ll keep you posted.
