Wes Anderson is assembling one heck of a cast for his next film.
Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jason Schwartzman (Moonrise Kingdom), and Rupert Friend (Hitman: Agent 47) are the latest actors that have been cast in the currently filming production.
The Hollywood Reporter had the scoops on all the castings. There are no character details for any of the actors except Robbie, whose role is reportedly being described as “supporting in nature.”
This will be Robbie’s first time working with Anderson. Schwartzman is an Anderson mainstay, Friend worked with him on The French Dispatch, and Johansson voiced a character in Isle of Dogs. The rest of the growing ensemble cast includes Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, and Tom Hanks, who will reportedly only have a small role in the film.
THR notes that “the cast for this one is larger than most other Anderson films that are ensemble in nature,” which is surprising when you look up how many actors are in The French Dispatch. Can we expect more casting announcements in the future? Probably, I mean, where are Owen Wilson and Edward Norton?
Anderson is expected to wrap shooting on this new film in late September. His latest, The French Dispatch, hits theaters on October 22, 2021.
What do you think of the cast so far? Excited to see Margot Robbie in an Anderson film?
