MCU News Update: Next ‘Avengers’ Event, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Script, ‘WandaVision’ & ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Rumors

Some rumors and quotes concerning upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects have been making the rounds, so we’ve collected them all together in this handy post for your reading pleasure.

Future Avengers Event

MCU Godfather Kevin Feige appeared on Omelete‘s 6-plus-hour stream at Brazil Comic-Con (CCXP) last weekend and teased that they are planning the next Avengers (via Heroic Hollywood):

“The MCU is all interconnected, but we really focus on one movie at a time. We’re going to make the best Black Widow movie we can possibly make, the best Eternals movie we can make, the best Shang-Chi, the best Doctor StrangeThorCaptain MarvelBlack Panther… And keep evolving their stories. Then, yes, it is always fun to see them come together in a master plan. Which is, I promise you well underway.”

With just a variety of solo films and shows in various stages for Phase 4, Feige teases that a “master plan” will already begin to take shape with the release of Black Widow and Eternals next year.

Endgame Did Not Impact Guardians 3 Script

Infinity War and Endgame didn’t impact the Guardians of the Galaxy too much, except for Gamora. She was killed off in Infinity War only for a 2014 time displaced version of herself to end up in present day (2023).

Naturally, some fans wondered if director James Gunn had to alter his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script. In a recent Q&A on Instagram, Gunn said that wasn’t necessary:

“The script will change because my scripts always keep changing up until the moment I shoot them. But it won’t change according to anything from Endgame, because I already knew what was in that script before I wrote Guardians 3.”

That makes sense. It will be interesting to see how 2014 Gamora factors into the story and if Thor makes an appearance.

Paging the Doctor

There’s a rumor going around that Doctor Strange will make an appearance in one of the final episodes of Marvel’s upcoming WandaVision series.

Charles Murphy states that Benedict Cumberbatch will be on set for the final week of principal photography on WandaVision and that his appearance will tie directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

One Zola or Another

Charles Murphy also has another supposed casting for a different Marvel/Disney+ show. He reports that Arnim Zola will appear in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Toby Jones previously played the character in the first two Captain America films.

However, there’s also the possibility that the Zola that will appear will actually be his daughter, Jet Zola. She is “a skilled combatant in the ways of Tachyon Fu, and possesses various superhuman senses. Her bare skin can read the future, allowing her to stay a step ahead of her opponents. She is also able to smell, hear, and taste things one hundred miles away.”

As much as I’d love to see Arnim Zola return to the MCU (perhaps in a form closer to his comic book appearance), I have to say that introducing Jet Zola to the universe would be cooler. In fact, let’s have Bucky and her have a conflicted romance.
