One Choice: 2010s Stephen King Movies

Inspired by the popular online game that asks people to choose one movie from a group of four, One Choice… is pretty much the same game. Readers will be given four similar movies and asked to choose one. Now here’s the catch, the other three movies will be gone forever, wiped from your brain as if they never existed. Are you ready to theoretically live in a world where you have The Empire Strikes Back but not Star Wars or Return of the Jedi? What about the 1989 Batman movie but not Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight? The choice is yours, screenager, so choose wisely.

It’s October, the time of year when ScreenAge Wasteland becomes ScreamAge Wasteland. However, for 2022 we’ve also decided to attach a theme to the month; this year, it’s Stephen King! So, what better way to celebrate the author’s vast body of adapted works than by making you all pick only one? This week, it’s four movie adaptations from the 2010s. Good luck!

Here are the 4 Movies:

It (2017)

Cast: Bill Skarsgård, Jaeden Martell, and Finn Wolfhard

Synopsis: In the summer of 1989, a group of bullied kids band together to destroy a shape-shifting monster, which disguises itself as a clown and preys on the children of Derry, their small Maine town.

Gerald’s Game (2017)

Cast: Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, and Chiara Aurelia

Synopsis: A couple tries to spice up their marriage in a remote lake house. After the husband dies unexpectedly, the wife is left handcuffed to their bed frame and must fight to survive and break free.

1922 (2017)

Cast: Thomas Jane, Molly Parker, and Dylan Schmid

Synopsis: A simple yet proud farmer in the year 1922 conspires to murder his wife for financial gain, convincing his teenage son to assist. But their actions have unintended consequences.

Doctor Sleep (2019)

Cast: Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, and Kyliegh Curran

Synopsis: Years following the events of The Shining, a now-adult Dan Torrance must protect a young girl with similar powers from a cult known as The True Knot, who prey on children with powers to remain immortal.

So, will it be It, Gerald’s Game, 1922, or Doctor Sleep? It’s time to choose. What will be your One Choice?
