It’s Kristen Stewart’s birthday! To mark the occasion, here are five of her best performances. Check some of these out!
Personal Shopper (2016)
Much like Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart will always be looked at by most as the girl from the “awful” Twilight movies. However, what most of those people won’t do is search out their low-budget independent work to see that these fools can actually act. As it stands right now, Personal Shopper may be Stewart’s best performance. The whole movie is all on her shoulders and she carries it like a pro. She dominates each scene turning in an effective look at grief and loss.
Camp X-Ray (2014)
In Camp X-Ray, Stewart plays one of the only female guards stationed at Guantanamo Bay. She has to show a certain amount of toughness while still maintaining her humanity in the face of seeing inmates treated poorly by fellow soldiers and being targeted by those same soldiers. Her paring with actor Payman Maadi, who plays one of the prisoners, seems odd but they are able to play off each other well enough for the viewer to buy into their relationship. One of Kristen’s first roles after Twilight to really show she could shed Bella and be a solid actress.
The Runaways (2010)
I don’ think you could have picked a better person to play the young punk rock great Joan Jett. She was able to transform herself and embody the rock legend from her mannerisms to her raspy voice. A biopic about two teenagers venturing out into the L.A. rock scene and forming an all-girl group called The Runaways. Her chemistry with Dakota Fanning help makes this movie a watch for fans of Stewart and Joan Jett.
Adventureland (2009)
This is one of my personal favorite of hers. She isn’t doing a lot of acting her as she is pretty much just Kristen Stewart but her and Jesse Eisenberg have great chemistry on screen. Set in the 80s at an amusement park, Stewart plays a smart and cool chick who hasn’t figured out what she wants to do with life like most of the kids working at Adventureland. This is a fun love letter to the 80s that is a coming of age rom-com that is filled with interesting characters,
Clouds of Sils Maria (2014)
I’ll admit I didn’t really care for this movie overall, but as a fan of Stewart, I feel it is a must-watch. She not only holds her own when on screen with Juliette Binoche but is able to feel like the star when the camera is on her. She does some of her best acting without saying anything while using her expressions. She plays an assistant to a star while juggling her schedule, helping her learn lines and trying to gain her respect for her interpretations of art. This is very much character-driven and is at it’s best when Stewart is on screen.
