Questlove to Direct Live-Action Remake of Disney’s ‘The Aristocats’

Disney is remaking The Aristocats.

According to Deadline, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson will direct a live-action/CGI reimagining of The Aristocats for Walt Disney Studios. For the unfamiliar, The Aristocats was a 1970 animated romantic musical comedy film that revolves around a family of aristocratic cats, who are left for dead by their owner’s butler. Why? Well, because his mistress’ fortune would only be left to him after the cats were dead. Luckily, an alley cat named Thomas O’Malley helps them get back home.

Questlove has reportedly been looking for a project to direct since winning the Oscar for Best Documentary last year for Summer of Soul. He will also executive produce and oversee music for the film, whose script is by Will Gluck and Keith Bunin.

No release date has been set yet for The Aristocats. The film is one of several live-action remakes currently in development at Disney, which will “treat” fans to new takes on Lilo & Stitch, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, among others, over the next couple of years.
