Shawn Levy to Direct ‘Deadpool 3’

Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds are about to collaborate on their largest project yet. According to THR, Levy is in negotiations to direct Deadpool 3 for Marvel Studios.

Levy and Reynolds previously worked together on last year’s Free Guy and the recently released The Adam Project.

Fans of the Merc with a Mouth have been waiting for the next instalment in the popular R-rated franchise since Deadpool 2 was released back in 2018. That film was directed by David Leitch. Tim Miller directed the original 2016 film.

It is unknown exactly how Deadpool 3 will fit into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe narrative. Will the multiverse be involved or will the upcoming sequel just throw Deadpool into the MCU and let him be the only one who knows he’s just switched universes? Personally, I’m hoping for the latter.

Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin (Bob’s Burgers) are writing the script for Deadpool 3. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penned the scripts for the first two films.

This will also be the first Deadpool film to be in production at Marvel Studios, which regained the rights to the character following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which released the first two films. Feige and other executives have gone on record to assure fans that the third film will retain the R-rating of the previous two films.

No release date has been given to Deadpool 3 as of writing. We’ll keep you posted.

What do you think of Shawn Levy directing Deadpool 3? Can Levy and Reynolds strike gold again?
