‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ & ‘Knuckles’ Spin-off Series in Development

Get ready to see a whole lot more of these two on your screens over the next few years.

Paramount Pictures and Sega Corp are developing a third feature film starring Sonic the Hedgehog. Additionally, a live-action spin-off series starring Knuckles, who makes his debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, is in the works at Paramount+. Idris Elba, who voices Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, will reprise the role.

On the announcement, Brian Robbins, who is President and CEO of Paramount Pictures & Nickelodeon as well as Chief Content Officer, Movies, Kids & Family – Paramount+, had this to say:

“For more than three decades, Sonic the Hedgehog’s universe of vibrant, unique characters has generated one of the most passionate fanbases. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Sega, Neal Moritz, and all our creative partners as we explore additive ways to holistically scale the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise across platforms and captivate its loyal audience around the world.”

Producer Neal H. Moritz added:

“The world of Sonic the Hedgehog has been capturing imaginations for decades, and we are thrilled to stretch the limits of what this franchise is capable of with world-class offerings both on the big screen and for Sonic fans at home. The sky is truly the limit, and I am immensely proud to be part of creating new Sonic content for longtime fans as well as introducing Sonic to a new generation.”

Sonic the Hedgehog was a surprise box office smash back in 2020, hitting theaters just before the pandemic desecrated theaters. It became the most successful video game adaptation at the domestic box office and earned almost $320 million worldwide. Let’s see if the sequel can match those stats when it hits theaters on April 8, 2022.
