Is Taron Egerton about to make the jump from Kingsman spy to Weapon X?
The Kingsman actor has revealed that he has spoken with Marvel Studios executives, including Kevin Feige, about playing Logan/Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character was previously portrayed by Hugh Jackman in 20th Century Studios’ X-Men franchise between 2000 and 2017.
Egerton told The New York Times about how he hopes to succeed Jackman in a role during an in-depth interview with the publication. Here’s the quote:
“I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it. But hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”
In addition to playing Kingsman spy Eggsy in 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service and 2017’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Egerton has starred in 2018’s Robin Hood and 2019’s Rocketman. He even co-starred with Jackman, the former Wolverine, in 2016’s Eddie the Eagle.
The British actor can currently be seen in Black Bird, an Apple TV+ drama that premiered on July 8. In the six-episode limited series, he plays James Keene, an imprisoned drug dealer who is offered a commuted sentence if he is able to convince his fellow inmate to admit to serious crimes. Black Bird is adapted from the 2010 autobiographical novel In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption by Keene.
