MOVIES WATCHED THIS WEEK
The Zero Theorem (2013)
“A hugely talented but socially isolated computer operator is tasked by Management to prove the Zero Theorem: that the universe ends as nothing, rendering life meaningless. But the meaning is what he already craves.”
The world is interesting that would have been more fun if it had been explored. Christoph Waltz gives a bizarrely nuanced performance but that’s about the best it gets and the only reason really watch. It’s pretty dull and never pulls you into the premise. (2.5/5)

City of God (2002)
“In the slums of Rio, two kids’ paths diverge as one struggles to become a photographer and the other a kingpin.”
A vicious look at how the cycle of violence is the law in certain parts of the world but that seems to be all it is saying though. Extremely well directed with some fantastic performances from a number of non-actors or amateurs. Lil Ze is a tremendous villain and the most interesting character of the film. He even made Sailor’s list of Greatest Villains. (4.5/5)

Inglorious Basterds (2009)
“In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincides with a theatre owner’s vengeful plans for the same.”
This is my favorite Tarantino film. Whether it’s his best or not is debatable but I just love it. QT’s dialogue at his best and some of his best characters. Being the umpteenth time I have watched this, I focused on some little things. This time it really popped out how he just allows the actors to take their time during the scenes. Long pauses, weird stares, Hans Landa enjoying the strudel with the le creme. It can be frustrating at times almost but it never feels like the actors are just reading rehearsed lines. Also, I always get giddy when Mike Myers shows up on the screen. (5/5)
