‘Avengers: Endgame’ Spoiler Thread

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

With Endgame ending Phase 3 of the MCU after 22 films, where do you land?

I’m over superhero movies or I’m in superhero movie heaven and can’t wait for more of them!

MOVIES WATCHED THIS WEEK

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

“After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe.”

A lot of my thoughts on the film is over on the spoiler thread if you want to read them. I won’t spend too much time on Endgame (mainly due to not wanting to spoil anything) other than to say that I really enjoyed it and feel it was fitting end to this 22 film saga. It’s hard to imagine that we will ever experience something of this magnitude again in film history but I hope to be proven wrong.

Whether you enjoyed every film or not, you have to give respect where it’s due. The fact that this endeavor worked to the degree it did is pretty mind boggling to say the least. I’m still undecided on my official rating for Endgame, but here is my gut reaction immediately after seeing it, and not thinking too much about it. (4.25/5) I honestly think I’m settling closer to (4/5) but need a re-watch.

Annabelle: Creation (2017)

“Twelve years after the tragic death of their little girl, a doll-maker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, where they become the target of the doll-maker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.”

I had decided to skip this after the bore that was Annabelle, but after continually hearing/reading positives things about Creation I decided to give it a try. I’d like to slap those people if I could because I should have just stuck with my instincts. Is this better than the first? Yes, but that doesn’t make it good. Nothing original, nothing creepy, nothing to even get me engaged. It’s simply a better constructed film over the other and that’s all. I’m pretty much done with the extended part of the Conjurverse. (2.5/5)

Charlie Bartlett (2007)

“A rich kid becomes the self-appointed psychiatrist to the student body of his new high school.”

A Ferris Bueller type film that deals with some heavy issues. Anton Yelchin was very entertaining and charismatic. He and Robert Downey Jr. carry the movie with RDJ playing an alcoholic principal. They have a very tense scene together where RDJ is just brilliant. Nothing all that memorable here, but definitely worth a watch. (3.5/5)

SHOWS WATCHED THIS WEEK

Game of Thrones Season 8.03: “The Long Night”

What an absolutely thrilling and exhausting episode! One of the best battles GoT has ever had. There were several great moments here on a grand scale and personal ones. An unexpected ending has me wondering where they go from here. Check out our spoiler thread here.
