There’s about to be a new leading face in the Star Wars galaxy.
Deadline has confirmed that Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) has joined The Acolyte, an upcoming Disney+ series set hundreds of years before Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace.
The project hails from Leslye Headland and was first announced back in December 2020 during Lucasfilm‘s Disney Investor Day presentation.
The Acolyte is described as “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”
In-universe, an acolyte is an individual with force abilities who learns from a more experienced Sith Lord. It’s basically the Sith version of Jedi Padawans.
Unfortunately, besides Stenberg’s casting and the above information, we know nothing else about the series. We don’t even know any details on Stenberg’s character (though best guess is she’s playing an Acolyte).
According to Variety, which broke the news first, The Acolyte is set to begin production in 2022. Expect more casting announcements to follow over the coming months. We’ll make sure to keep you posted.
