Armando Iannucci, the creator of Veep has agreed to release a series pilot with HBO titled Avenue 5 – a space comedy set roughly forty years into the future where the solar system is a commodity to be exploited/explored.
Hugh Laurie is slated to take on a captain role of the Avenue 5, a space-faring cruise ship while Rebecca Front, Lenora Crichlow, Suzy Nakamura and Ethan Phillips being set to co-star.
I’m pretty excited to see a Iannucci’s brand of grounded-yet-hilarious humor transplanted into a science fiction setting; Veep managed to keep me invested through the three seasons that I saw due to the razor-edged dialogue and depressing behind the scenes commentary of modern politics where nobody had a stronger motivation than back scratching or a tiny scrap of recognition.

Plus having Laurie on board is a coup, particularly for fans of his earlier British comedy career.
