‘Obsession’ Director Wants to Make an R-Rated Version of ‘Indiana Jones’

With Obsession grossing over $500 million worldwide, Curry Barker will have no trouble receiving a blank check from any studio for his next directorial effort, which sounds like it could be an R-rated adventure film in the vein of Indiana Jones.

In an interview with Gold Derby, Barker revealed that he and his producing partner Cooper Tomlinson have discussed making an R-rated adventure movie in the style of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

“I would want to do a really f–ked up, rated-R version of [Indiana Jones],” the filmmaker said with a sly grin. “I want to do a crazy adventure movie. That’s something that Cooper and I have talked about, because we feel like we’ve never seen something like that; we’ve only ever seen the family-friendly version. But what happens if two regular guys, or one regular guy, goes on a journey that turns crazy? Literally pushing the boundaries of that genre would be fun for me.”

Barker putting his twist on Indiana Jones would be amazing. Unfortunately, even if a studio wanted to make that movie, it wouldn’t be the filmmaker’s next feature. Back in April, A24 tapped Barker to write and direct a reimagined version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Barker is also writing, directing, and producing an original horror film for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic.

Still, the idea of an R-rated Indiana Jones is too good to pass up, especially, and I’m just throwing this out there, if Barker gets his Obsession breakout star Inde Navarrette to play the lead adventurer. Can you see the vision?
