Director Doug Liman has been making the rounds promoting the second season of the YouTube Premium series Impulse. He was recently asked twice to give an update on the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, rumored to be titled Live, Die, Repeat and Repeat.
Speaking with ScreenGeek at NYCC, Liman said the following:
“We’re working on that. We’re still not sure if we’re gonna do it or not. But it’s a world that I love and that Tom [Cruise] loves and Emily [Blunt] loves and we have a great story that we’re working on. So, it’s definitely something to be excited to go back to.”
However, in an interview with Comicbook, Liman revealed that the plan was to shoot the sequel after Tom Cruise finished the next two Mission: Impossible movies:
“I’m hoping. If we’re going to do it, that would be the time. …The script is ready.”
Edge of Tomorrow is one of my favorite films of 2014. It’s essentially a sci-fi Groundhog’s Day, and you know that if it involves time travel I am there. Plus Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt had a killer buddy dynamic going in that film. That said, I don’t think we need a sequel, but if Cruise and Liman came up with a good enough idea, I’d make sure my butt was in the theaters this time around to show my appreciation for gifting us with the first film.
What did you think of Edge of Tomorrow? Do you think it needs a sequel?
